Hey. I'm a good liberal and a big fan of Rachel Maddow. I love her show and her point of view. But I think she took a shot at me on national TV this week.

Marshall County School administrators are wondering if homework should be optional. Personally, I think homework is important--but I also think some teachers don't realize how many other activities kids have after school. Nor do they recognize that some homes don't have computers and some parents just aren't involved in their kids education. Should those students be penalized when they can't handle homework as well as those better-off? Vote in our poll to the right.

WV Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse is up in arms overpossible fraud in testimony in a federal court case heard in Wheeling. Steve Cohen and Richie Heath were on the show. I don't often agre with them, but they're good guests.

Dick Cheney says he has formally requested the CIA declassify documents that prove torture worked.I agree. Because I want to know if we actually got real saved-a-city-just-in-time-we-had-no-other-way-get-it, Tom Clancy-Jack Bauer ticking clock last-minute-save information. Or if we picked some intell, pieces of the puzzle, maybe-we-would-have-got-it-another-way information. Hoppy Kercheval and I kicked this around on Statewide Talkline.

While there my have been some "average Americans" fed up with the defecit budgets, much of these Turf-roots parties involved the wacko right wing fringe groups.

But Columbia University professor Daniel Sinker--also in HuffPo-- points out that those of us on the left went through a wacko fringe period before finding the path to power again as well. So he cautions that today's teabaggers could be tomorrow's majority if we don't deliver on our promises as the new controlling majority.

There is a Tea Party in town tonight. 7pm at Heritage Port.

Billed as a "grassroots" protest by average Americans upset with the wild-spending ways of President Obama, the TP's are, in fact, a well-organzied and well-funded effort by partisan players.

Despite these attempts to make the “movement” appear organic, the principle organizers of the local events are actually the lobbyist-run think tanks Americans for Prosperity and Freedom Works. The two groups are heavily staffed and well funded, and are providing all the logistical and public relations work necessary for planning coast-to-coast protests.(ThinkProgress)

I am sure that there are a lot of folks who will take part that are truly "average citizens who are fed up". But they are pawns in a partisan game.

I asked a local organizer on my show today why the PAST 8 years of wild, runaway spending hadn't sent them to the streets. She said they just weren't "fed up enough" then.

I guess they only became fed up when the federal government decided to start to spend money to fix the mess the GOP Congress and administration left us in.

We are not a Fox News affiliate (even though an angry e-mailer accused us being one).

Glenn Beck is on a competing station.

So I hate to give competitors publicity....but this video of Shep Smith lampooning the buffoonery of Beck is just too good not to share.

It's Ney Day

Former Congressman Bob Ney is on the air. Monday from 1-3pm marks the debut of Ney's career as a talk host.

Media in the Valley already generating a buzz.

WTRF interviewed me earlier in the week. I'm not sure how Mr. Ney will feel about the headline: "Ney joins forces with Howard Monroe".

WTOV does a goood job of pulling together some of Ney's background (the highs and the lows) as well as talking to some people on the street.

My Uncle Bob had a collection in his garage and when I was a wee one I loved to go out there look at them all lined up the wall.

Sad story this weekend about an elderly couple lost on the roads of Eastern Ohio. Stuck in the mud and the husband dies.

The truly sad part is that the couple was stopped--twice--by local police. Once by the Monroe County Sheriff and once by Shadyside cops. The Bridgeport, WV pair was driving only around 30MPH as they wandered trying to find their way to Kent, Ohio. They were stopped for driving too slow. But they were then allowed to go on their way.
