An open letter to Democrats and their leadership in Congress and the Senate about health care reform:
If you believe you have the information you need, if you think health care reform is necessary and the pending bill(s) are reasonable, if you believe your constituents will be better off with this legislation, then JUST DO IT.
When I voted for you, I didn't expect you to call me each week for my opinion. I didn't intend for you to try to make the GOP happy. I never expected you to placate your critics by delaying doing what was right. I expect your vote to be based on your character, ideology, and information--not on what the latest polls are showing.
I expect you to do what is right even it it difficult. I expect you to vote in what you perceive as the best interests of your constituents--even if it means you may have a problem come election time.
I don't expect you to vote for a watered down bill because "we might lose the majority". The majority is useless if you don't use it to advance what you believe is right.
The overwhelming majority of thinking Americans know that change is needed in the health insurance system. We expect you to take action. Please not rashly, please by being informed and considering all aspects, but PLEASE take action.
If you are informed and comfortable. If you think we, the American people, will benefit in the end, then
JUST DO IT.
Respectfully,
Howard Monroe
