Should Donald trump be taken seriously as a presidential candidate? There are polls this week suggesting he has some support among GOP voters. I think he's just the flavor of the month. He's an aggressive self-promoter, portrays himself as a ball-busting take charge guy. And that has appeal. But he has plenty of blemishes and there's a lot to criticize as well. At this point in the process--a year out from the primaries, no major announced contenders, and siginifcant advertising--politics is primarily entertainment. And "The Donald" is entertaining. Hoppy kercheval and I discussed it on Statewide Talkline.

A big community meeting in Marshall County last night to bitch about Marcellus Shale drillers. Upshot: the legislator needs to get its act together and settle on appropriate regulations.

Charlie from Ye Olde Alpha was in for our weekly visit with his review of a new local restuarant he visited...great food, horrible atmosphere. We sampled some brocoli soup, and of course pulled a few bottles from the infamous bucket of Bud Light

 

Pizza, a local TV legend, and a Supreme Court Justice---Wednesday Show Review

Rasmussen Poll says Pizza Hut is America's favorite pie. Followed by Pappa John's and Little Ceasar's. We had some fun discussing our favorite franchise...and local...pizza. Dicarlos was the top local choice...Pizza Villa, Home Pizza, and the Pink Door in Moundsville racked up points as well.

WV Supreme Court Justice Brent Benjamin dropped by and we kicked around a little politics, the need for greater access to legal services by lower and middle income West Virginians, and how--or if--we can get money out of politics. Oh...and Benjamin's favorite Wheeling-area pizza? DiCarlos in the Grove.

With the death of local broadcasting legend Mark Davis, I shared some stories from the time Mark and I worked together--the first night he and I made a tavern swing thru Wheeling ...and the day he had the TV-7 newsroom in an uproar when he straight-faced told us he had confirmed an outbreak of "aids" at one of our elderly hi rises. After I had arranged for a live truck to provide coverage and assigned reporters to rush to the building to cover the story, Mark explained the seniors had an outbreak of HEARING AIDS. The stone-faced anchor often seemed to have little sense of humour but in fact, he had a great one----when you got to know him. Mark Davis was a reporter from the old school....yes, he hit the sauce and smoked like a chimney--but he always got the story right and demanded every one else did as well. A long way from today's TV newsrooms which often seem more concerned with the glitz and glamour than with actual journalism. RIP, Mark, you done good.
