FRIDAY ON THE BOB NEY SHOW:

Apollo 14 astronaut Edgar D. Mitchell, the sixth man ever to walk on the moon, has a message for all citizens of Earth: We are not alone.

"We are being visited," the 79-year-old grandfatherly "spacefarer" told 100 or so UFOlogists gathered at a National Press Club conference called by the Paradigm Research Group (motto: "It's not about lights in the sky; it's about lies on the ground").

"It is now time to put away this embargo of truth about the alien presence," said the astronaut who made the longest moonwalk in history. "I call upon our government to open up ... and become a part of this planetary community that is now trying to take our proper role as a spacefaring civilization."

With a new, perhaps more intellectually curious president in the White House, UFOlogists say, the time is ripe for the United States to follow the lead of other nations and release all classified files about government interaction with extraterrestrial beings. In fact, PRG founder Stephen Bassett demands that the Obama administration dump the documents, and quick.

I went to the correspondent's dinner last night and was spotted by Politico.

The Washington Examiner caught me having dinner.   

Wow, in the old days I avoided being spotted, today I would be depressed if I wasn"t :-)

The dinner was very good, I saw former staffers, current reporters, Members of Congress, Cabinet Members, former cabinet members.

Alberto Gonzales slithered out before I could invite him on my show.

The stars were about,  got a chance to have a good chat with Matthew Modine  (Full Metal Jacket).

 All in all, a great time, and I could not have asked for a better reception.  The President brought down the house.  He was humorous and well received --of course he was well received, it was the media in attendance !!!!

The highlight also, for me, was spending time with my friend, Ellen Ratner, Talk Radio News Service, who,  beyond being a fantastic human being and friend, can provide some great news if you click onto the talk radio news service website.  The picture at the top of this post was from last night's dinner and taken by TRNS' staffer Jay Tamboli. MR. OWEN HAS BEEN INVOLVED IN LANDMARK CRIMINAL CASES RESULTING IN THE RELEASE OF INNOCENT MEN WRONGLY CONVICTED.

      Recently, Mr. Owen helped overturn the convictions of a man and woman from Mansfield, Ohio who were framed by the DEA, which hired agents that used stand-in actors to impersonate the man and woman during staged drug deals. 

      He  also helped free two Columbus men, Timothy Howard and Gary James, who were both convicted and sentenced to death in 1977 for a robbery and murder at an East-side Columbus bank.  Mr. Owen became involved in the case in 1997, more than 20 years after their convictions.  On April 17, 2003, Mr. Howard was granted a new trial based on compelling new evidence of innocence.  On July 17, 2003, Mr. James was also granted a new trial.  Shortly thereafter, the State of Ohio dismissed all charges against both men and expunged their convictions.  With his  representation, both men were later found to have been wrongfully imprisoned and received the two highest wrongful imprisonment awards in Ohio history. 

      Mr. Owen also represented two Akron-area men, Randy Resh and Robert Gondor, in state post-conviction litigation.  These two clients were indicted in 1990 for death penalty murder, and were subsequently convicted and sentenced to lengthy terms of imprisonment.  After extensive litigation initiated by Mr. Owen, culminating in an eight-day evidentiary hearing, both men were granted new trials on June 14, 2002, based on compelling new evidence of innocence.  After the State of Ohio appealed, Mr. Owen argued the case before the Ohio Supreme Court where the Court affirmed the trial court’s decision granting post-conviction relief in a unanimous decision rendered on December 26, 2006.  Both men have since been exonerated of all charges. 

      In 1986, Mr. Owen obtained the first acquittal by a jury in a capital murder case under Ohio’s 1981 death penalty law.  Since then, he has received more jury acquittals in death penalty murder trials than any other lawyer licensed in Ohio. 

      Just last month, Mr. Owen obtained another in a long string of acquittals, this one coming from a Murder case he tried to a jury in Springfield, Ohio. 

      Mr. Owen has represented Centurion Ministries, Inc., a Princeton-based nonprofit corporation founded and operated by Jim McCloskey that works for the release of the wrongfully convicted.  Centurion Ministries has freed 46 innocent men and women throughout the country who were either on death row or serving life sentences.  Mr. McCloskey was profiled in U.S. News & World Report in 2001 as one of 20 living American heroes of our time. 

      Mr. Owen has also represented judges and other elected officials in a variety of legal matters; and most recently has served as legal advisor to the Ohio Secretary of State in nineteen separate lawsuits filed against the office prior to the Secretary’s election in 2006. 

      Mr. Owen has been fighting for the Constitutional rights of citizens across the county for nearly 30 years, and has provided a powerful voice for all of our rights through his work defending the accused.

Meanwhile, Politico.com says a movie is in the works about Jack Abramoff. Callers to the Bob Ney Show today suggested some names for actors to play the Bob Ney part: Bob Newhart, Alec Baldwin, Brad Pitt (!) and Gary Sinese.

Wall Street Journal writer, economist. and Fox News analyst Stephen Moore was Bob's Monday guest. Bob and Moore talked about the current state of the economy, stimulus plan, and the flat tax. Lots of phone calls from the Valley and from afar---including one inside the Beltway.

Thursday on The Bob Ney Radio Show, Bob talked about the Bush administration unauthorized wiretaps, Tea Party events, efforts by Spain to bring Bush officials to trial, health care reform, the Bellaire Bridge, and a review of some key issues in Ohio politics.

Our on-line stream was bombarded by listeners around the country. We had more people listening on-line for the 2-hour debut show than we normally do in a month.

WTRF and WTOV locally covered the event. So did the Ohio News Network (ONN). ONN has a nice video on their website onntv.com. Dozens of national publications and blogs picked up the story as well. (Some of the nationals didn't do their homework--calling me a "conservative" station owner.)
